Missing the Point with a Potentially Game-Changing Robot “Toy”

  • Fredrik

    Hi!

Just a small comment on all of this.
At the very end of the Spykee manual, there is talk of the whole thing being Open Source, but it is not yet released.

    Ref:
    http://spykeeworld.com/documents/manualpc-en.pdf
    I quote:
“” The Spykee program is open source.
You will find the SDK documentation on our website http://www.spykeeworld.com (NOT AVAILABLE YET). “”

Let’s just hope they actually release it as soon as it ships, since I’ve ordered one and will be writing all sorts of silly software for it.

Yes. They need to publish APIs and the protocols so we can write our own code for this thing.

In the mean time we are left with reverse engineering. Here’s my first cut at a rudimentary Spykee mini-console for the iPhone: http://mrblog.org/2008/11/20/spykee-iphone-hack/

Am I the only one who gets grouchy because when I was growing up the closest thing to a toy robot was an arm that could maybe hold a chess piece. Meanwhile my kids will have toy robots with open source APIs that they can program to simulate autonomy. Sheesh!
